Diving in Antigua:
Antigua and Barbuda are popular shallow dive locations almost completely
surrounded by well-preserved coral reefs, walls and shelfs. Of the
two, Antigua has the most dive sites. The 2.5 mile Cades Reef underwater
park and Sandy Island Reef at only 30 to 50 ft deep are both worthwhile
locations providing excellent conditions for shallow diving
and snorkelling.
There is a vast array of under water sites to discover around Antigua.
There are an abundance of wrecks, the scooner Andes being one of
the best examples found in Deep Bay. The coral reefs support a large
amount of tropical fish and tropical marine plants. If you are lucky
you may even spot a turtle!
For the more adventurous there are slightly deeper dives around
the island, two being Shirley Heights and Sunken Rock that both
exceed 100 ft.
For safety the nearest recompression chamber is in Barbados. We
suggest that if you decide to go diving whilst on holiday to always
find a reputable company. Check their experience and credentials
and ask what their emergency plans are in case an accident happens.
